1. It is tempting to take hot showers while it is cold outside, but keep the shower luke warm and when you exit the shower don't hesitate to apply a rich moisturizer. Moisturizer is better absorbed when your skin is damp and your pores are open. Choose a rich moisturizer that contains ingredients like cocoa butter, jojoba, and almond oil. Oatmeal extract and lavender oil are best for soothing irritated skin.
2. Keep mositurizing products on hand at all times. During the winter months, you may be traveling or busy out-and-about so be sure to carry a rich hand cream in your handbag, and a thick lip balm. I love Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream $18, which is a fabulous multi-use product. Aquaphor is another great product; An all-purpose salve made with panthenol, mineral oil, and chamomile essence that helps heal chapped lips, dry cuticles and even cuts and scrapes.
3. Often times, the skin on the face suffers from the effects of harsh weather conditions so upgrade your face moisturizer to a more rich cream during the winter months. Also, I use a warm humidifier in your bedroom while you sleep to aid in keeping your skin hydrated while you sleep. Skip clay masks during the winter months, and try a hydrating mask. I love Kate Somerville Quench mask $45!
4. You must not skimp on sunscreen. Many people stop using sunscreen during the winter, but that is a huge mistake. You can still get sun damage during the winter, so continue to slather!
