As the new Elizabethan age or the reign of Queen Elizabeth II completes sixty years the Diamond Jubilee cannon was fired. But there was little fanfare to mark the day as the Queen planned to have a much understated start to her colossal anniversary year. As for the days ahead the Queen will be travelling the globe and will also be opening the Olympic Games to be held in London this year.
As always she kept the celebration as a low key affair and even her clothes bespoke a lack of fuss. She wore turquoise grey and white wool dress with matching hat and coat along with a simple piece of gemstone jewelry the late Queen Mother’s favorite diamond brooch.
Also to mark the occasion The Queen is also going to put on display some of her most glittering gems and jewels to mark her diamond jubilee. Treasures including Queen Victoria’s widow crown, the coronation necklace and earrings and the quaintly named Girls of Great Britain tiara will be part of an exhibition that is going to be held at Buckingham Palace. One of the most exquisite pieces to be on display here will be the wonderful pink diamond brooch of the Queen. We can only hope that the exquisitely crafted emerald and diamond encrusted Godman Necklace, which is part of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's personal jewelry collection will also be put on a display here.
