The Joker and Batman '10 out of 10' review version was snapped on the side of Madame Tussauds Hollywood on December 3, whilst the standard landscape version with Batman watching over the city, was also photographed months earlier along Hollywood Boulevard on October 12, 2011.

You can tell when the Christmas gifting season is fast approaching when the skies are filled with loads of video game billboards for gamers to ask Santa for.

In addition to the latest Call of Duty and Battlefield 3 game billboards, here are three other video games duking it out above the streets of L.A.

There's the atmospheric Batman: Arkham City, featuring the Caped Crusader in a classic pose, snapped along Hollywood Boulevard on October 12.

Meanwhile, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Saints Row: The Third literally battle it out with special extension billboards back to back, and visible from each side, along Fairfax Avenue at Melrose Avenue on October 26.

This Skyrim ad was actually photographed at Melrose and La Brea Avenues, and Daily Billboard likes how the snowcapped mountain peak sneaks above the billboard in addition to the armoured warrior.

Battle of the billboards: Call of Duty MW3 vs Battlefield 3...

Call of Duty MW3 game billboard
Today it's another Battle of the billboards and this time it's war, quite literally, with these two fantastic video game billboards.
Battlefield 3 game billboard
The super-sized silhouetted soldier in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 billboard makes a real impact, really standing out against that simple white background, but Battlefield 3 looks equally dramatic, with some vibrant colour to catch your eye.

This giant Call of Duty billboard was snapped along L.A.'s Sunset Strip on October 13 and standard size Battlefield 3 billboard a week earlier further east along Sunset Boulevard on October 6, 2011.

There's obviously some social commentary to be said about these images glorifying war on our city streets, especially targeting the young male game-playing market, but that sounds far too serious.

Who do you think goes above and beyond the call to be the winner of this armed combat in advertising?

Rage video game billboard...

Rage billboard
There's nothing like a gun-weilding apocalyptic soldier to grab your attention as you drive along and this billboard for new video game, Rage, certainly does that.

Not only do the special extensions help the billboard stand out, but the colour scheme also helps this creative pop against that lovely blue Californian sky.

Mortal Kombat Fatality Lives game billboard...

Mortal Kombat Fatality Lives billboard
Nowadays it's often hard to distinguish between the animation used in feature films and video games as technology has advanced so much. The same can sometimes be said of advertising for the two entertainment genres as this billboard for the martial arts fantasy game, Mortal Kombat Fatality Lives, illustrates. From a distance it's hard to tell if it's for a game or a cartoon, until you notice the recognisable games console logos in the bottom left hand corner.

This colourful and eye-catching video game billboard was snapped at Melrose and La Brea Avenues on April 25, 2011.

Homefront video game billboard...

Homefront game billboard
There's something really eye-catching about this billboard for new console game, Homefront.

Maybe it's the use of the Stars and Stripes in the title, or the fact it looks like it could actually be an advertisement for a big blockbuster war movie, but it really does stand out.

Daily Billboard is also relieved that the designers didn't resort to slapping a pack shot of the game on the ad creative, as it looks so much cleaner and more impactful without it.

These billboards were snapped along L.A.'s Sunset Boulevard and also La Brea Avenue on March 9, 2011.

Disney's Epic Mickey game billboard...

Disney Epic Mickey game billboard
This simple billboard for Disney's new Epic Mickey Wii game really catches your eye as you pass by.

Daily Billboard is intrigued by the concept and the new, slightly edgier look for Mickey Mouse, but it's just a shame they had to show the game packaging on the billboard as it would have looked so much cooler and made more of a splash without it in DB's mind.

This epic billboard was snapped along Highland Avenue in L.A. on November 27, 2010.
