Acne Free Diet

Eating the proper foods, and avoiding bad foods can make a huge impact on your skin. If you maintain your skincare regime, and start eating a proper diet, you'll be on your way to clear glowing skin.
EAT PLENTY OF:
Nuts and Fish- are both rich in omega fatty acids which are said to be anti-inflammatory. Although scientific studies have not yet been done to prove that omega fatty acids reduce inflammation, most people notice a difference when they consume these foods regularly.
Blueberries- Are rich in antioxidants and also reduce inflammation.
AVOID:
Milk- has hormones, so avoid milk and dairy products if you experience acne breakouts.
Sugar- Cookies, cakes, fruit juices, and sodas increase glucose and insulin levels in the body. This can increase acne breakouts, so avoid these foods at all costs.

Breakout Mystery

Have you ever wondered why you breakout? We all have wondered this at some point or another, however, there are so many possibilities when it comes to how and why we breakout. It can be very hard to find the source, but here are some posibilities to consider.
1. Hormones: Ancient chinese medicine has linked breakouts around the mouth and jawline with hormones. If you notice cystic acne in this area, perhaps your hormones are out of balance. You can speak with your doctor about testing your hormone levels and birth control options to regulate your personal levels. You can also try natural approaches including reducing stress, getting plenty of sleep, and taking evening primrose oil.
2. Allergies: Typically when breakouts resemble very tiny bumps all over the face it can be an allergy to food or makeup. You can have your doctor check your blood for an intolerance to foods like gluten or dairy. You can also test food allergies by eliminating the food of question and bringing it slowly back into your diet. If you see a change in your skin during the elimination period, you may have solved the mystery. Keep your makeup very natural. Ingredients like talc can often cause problems to the skin. Try Jane Iredale, Stript, BareMinerals, or GloMinerals for the most natural makeup on the market.
3. Excess Sebum: Sebum is an oily substance secreted from the skin to protect and keep the skin hydrated. When you have excess sebum, you will most likely experience acne. Your doctor can prescribe you Retin-A to allow the skin to properly slough off dead skin cells and keep sebum levels regulated.
Always remember to keep your hands away from your face, keep the hair around your face clean, disinfect your cellphone, and clean your pillowcases regularly. Check if your shampoo or conditioner might be the problem by changing it and taking note if your skin improves. Always use good quality skin and hair products. They tend to have less fillers, and in my opinion are better for you overall.

Shiny Hair Tricks

There are more then enough shine serums, balms, and oils on the market. If you are on a budget but don't want to miss out on shiny locks here are a few tricks.
1. fill a small spray bottle with 100% cranberry juice. Spray it into your hair when it is dry. Dry as normal.
Warning: If you are blonde use the juice from two lemons mixed with water. Cranberry will turn your hair orange or red.
3. Add one crushed aspirin to your shampoo and wash as normal. This gives the hair brilliant shine, and prevents from damage.
Note: You can also make an Aspirin face mask to aid in acne. Add one crushed asprin with a little water and make into a paste. Apply to infected area, and let sit for 15 minutes.
2. As you are about to finish your shower turn the water to cold and rinse your hair in cool water. Not only does this make your hair shiny, but it aids in circulation as well.

Supplements For Breakouts

Breakouts are as much of an internal issue as an external one. There are some vitamins that can help aid in healing breakouts along with helping inflammation.
Evening Primrose Oil- is typically used to aid in regulating hormone levels in women. It is said to decrease inflammation in the body and on the skin. If you suffer from acne breakouts, talk with your doctor about the appropriate amount of evening primrose oil for you to take.
Niacinamide- a derivative of vitamin B, or Niacin. This supplement is said to help acne significantly. I take this supplement daily, and it really seems to help keep my skin clear.
Women's Ultra Mega at GNC- This supplement is great. It is a multi-vitamin that has everything a women needs in it. It saves me from having to pop multiple vitamins.

Top skincare must-haves for oily/acne prone skin
Many people have oily/acne prone skin. Often times, they are focusing so much on getting rid of the acne, that they completely forget about treating the skin and preventing aging. The truth is, you can deal with acne while still preventing aging. You must invest to purchase the proper products. My personal favorite products for oily/acne prone skin are:
Cleanser: Dermalogica dermal clay cleanser
You can cleanse and leave it on the skin for a few moments. It really pulls out the impurities.
Day Serum: MD Skincare oil-free hydra pure serum
Very light and works well for daytime under an oil-free sunscreen. This serum pulls all the toxins off the skin leftover from the harsh chemicals in our city water.

Night-Time Treatment: Philosophy Help Me
Has the highest form of Retinol you can get without a doctor prescription. Retinol (Vitamin A) allows the skin to regenerate as you sleep. It rapidly removes dead skin cells and promotes younger, healthy skin.
Weekly Treatment: Ahava Mud Mask
Amazing and a very potent mud mask. The salt pulls out the toxins and really cleanses the skin.

Remember to always use sunscreen as it prevents the scarring from acne called hyper pigmentation. Hyper pigmentation is a whole other monster, and it is best to protect and prevent from this as much as possible.

Drink Your Way To Better Skin!
This concept sounds strange, however it is quite revolutionary. Many skincare lines are coming out with vitamin drinks for specific skin concerns. You can drink a pleasant tasting drink packed with acne fighters, wrinkle softeners, and skin firming ingredients. With distinct cocktails of vitamins specified for various concerns, you can't go wrong.Try Borba which has four delicious flavored waters. Addresses skincare concerns including acne, aging and sagging skin, and dry dehydrated skin.

Glowelle- A cocktail of vitamins, botanicals, and fruit extracts that nourish the skin and help fight the signs of aging from the inside out.

LED Light Therapy

Image courtesy of Cobble San Fransisco
The newest wave in technology for anti-aging was discovered by NASA. It is called LED light therapy. You can purchase the machine for close to $300, and it comes in a variety of colors to deal with a range of skin concerns. LED’s (Light Emitting Diodes) penetrate deep into the dermis layer of the skin, energizing the cells, stimulating collagen and elastin, giving the skin back its youthful look.
The colors represent the wave length of the light, which directly affects how deep the skin is penetrated. Different skin concerns demand various wave lengths. For instance, if you want to treat acne, you would choose the blue light. The wave length is the shortest and only penetrates the pores, acting as a bacteria zapper. For the signs of aging, you would choose the red light, which has the longest wave length. This light hits the dermis and increases collagen production.
